About Mudawwin

A mudawwin is a compiler: someone who gathers what the scholars said and sets it down so it is not lost. The most famous compilation in the Maliki school, Saḥnūn’s al-Mudawwana, takes its name from the same root. This library tries to do that work, in English, for readers who want classical Sunni learning rather than opinion.

What you will find here

Three subjects sit at the centre: fiqh as the Maliki school teaches it, ʿaqidah in the Ashʿari tradition, and tasawwuf within the bounds of the Sacred Law. Around them are texts on hadith, the Quran, Islamic history and the manners of seeking knowledge.

How entries are sourced

Every claim should be traceable. Reference pages give the Arabic text, an English translation, and the author, book, edition, volume and page it comes from. Where an entry reproduces the words of a named scholar or translator, that credit stays with the entry, and the original work remains theirs.

Nothing here is a fatwa. For a ruling on your own situation, ask a qualified scholar of your school.

Who compiles it

The library is compiled by al-Mudawwin, a student of the sacred sciences. The aim is to point you to the scholars, not to the compiler.

History

The library began in 2013 under the name Splendid Pearls. The earlier entries are kept here at their original addresses, as they were first published.
